Wild Turkey Rare Breed Whiskey Description:

This bourbon is a unique marriage of Wild Turkey 6-, 8- and 12-year-old stocks, which give the whiskey a rich, exceptional flavor that is remarkably smooth, considering its high alcohol content. It is assertive with hints of light oranges, mint, and tones of sweet tobacco that will remind you of your grandfather's pipe-bowl. The finish is long, warm and nutty and lingers in the mouth with hints of hot peppers and well-toasted whole wheat bread.

Jimmy Russell keeps his Rare Breed in the freezer so he doesn't have to add ice, which would melt and ultimately dilute the flavor.

Rare Breed is the recipient of a Gold Medal at the 2000 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

''One of the wonders of the whisky and whiskey world...the complexity, the brain-exploding perfection of it all is almost frightening. The trick is the understatement of all that's happening on the noise: the apples, the citrus, the lychees, the cherries...All these elements are there, but fusing with the soft rye (or are those fruit notes part of the rye fingerprint?), and then comes the butterscotch, the odd dollop of honey and that glorious hint of the corn fermenting. Just too good to be true and an aroma that has previously non-lovers of bourbon rethinking their whiskey life; fabulous, yet after nose almost a letdown...almost. Silkily structured with an immediate spice, corn and vanilla input. The old liquorice of yore has receeded on this bottling, replaced by a bitter-sweet rye presence; long, genuinely soft and again playful with so many notes criss-crossing the palate and offering peek-a-boo sightings of all the things you thought you had detected on the nose; a bourbon that almost teases and torments you with its complexity. A world great. Note: the sample I officially tasted was from a bottle marked at the neck Batch WT-03RB. Every Rare Breed I have ever tasted has boasted this batch number. 54.1%''
